Jane Pickering joined our team of tutors & assessors here at Cirque Talent Academy, in February 2017. Jane is a senior State Registered Hairdresser, a member of the Beauty Guild of Lecturers and is also an internal verifier for the company.
Jane has been in the Hair and Beauty industry professionally for 34 years. However, some would argue that it was in her blood as her Grandfather was the first barber on Saville Street, Sheffield in the early 1900’s, setting the precedent for future family generations of creative talent.
She began helping her Mother in her salon from the age of 6, armed with hair spray and a little bag for her hair tools, the clients loved her. She followed in her mother’s footsteps by going to Granville College as soon as she left school in 1982 where she studied for a City & Guilds qualification in hair and beauty before going on to complete a 3-year extensive advanced hair and beauty course, upskilling to level 3 in all subjects.
After qualifying, Jane landed a position within The Andre Bernard’s Franchise and worked her way up to be manager. This is where her desire to teach began to itch. In 1993 she bought her own salon in Sheffield. The success of this enabled her to expand the business and in 1998 she bought her second salon in Sheffield town centre and employed 16 staff, ensuring they all met her outstanding salon standard.
Having 6 apprentices amongst her staff enabled her to complete her Assessors award. Jane found this very rewarding, more so than the salons. In 2002 she sold both salons so that she could concentrate on assessing full time. Jane then returned to adult education to study and successfully completed her PTTLS and DTTLS qualifications which enabled her to teach Hair and Beauty NVQ’s level 1, to 14-16 years and NVQ level 2 and 3, to 16+ apprentices.
But she still wasn’t finished. Jane then went on to join ESG to become a work based assessor, and was tasked with delivering to 265 salons across the UK. She has worked at Hair and Beauty UK and is a winner of the Steven Jones Challenge Trophy for Hairdressing. Jane was also one of the team who set up a training academy in Birmingham for the award- winning hairstylist, Ade Phelan and was short listed for the television programme “The Salon”. Double great news hit Jane that month as she also found out that she was expecting her little bundle of joy and decided to put her budding TV career on hold.
Returning to adult education once again in 2010 she completed her Internal Verifiers Award before going on to complete a Microblading Course that qualified her to teach microblading to others as well as performing the service herself.
You can study microblading and many other courses with Jane at Cirque Beauty School. See website for details
